Last Revolutionary, 2014–2016, video, 7’22”

Rafał Żarski’s video maintains an ironic distance from the cult of martyrological tradition, which revolves around a vision of the political past as a history of armed conflict and violent insurrection. The contemporary revolutionary, his lance sporting the colours of the Coca-Cola logo (also the colours of the Polish flag) roams around aimlessly in urban and suburban space. The absurdist style stresses that identifying with any interpretation of history or contemporary political concepts is impossible. Absurd, aloof and apolitical, this work is actually a committed critical statement in defiance of reality.
